The show’s creator, Greg Daniels, actually revealed last year that he wrote the show to be exactly four seasons long.
He shared in a statement last year, “When I conceived Upload many years ago, I had the story arced out over four seasons, so I am thrilled to make the ending the fans deserve and the characters and creative team have been working towards.”
So, in short, it was always meant to end after four seasons and not have a season 5.
