Before Robinson‘s identity was reported, it was revealed that a suspect was taken into custody in St. George, Utah around 11pm local time by police.
While appearing on Fox & Friends on Friday morning, President Donald Trump confirmed that a suspect was in police custody and shared some background details about him.
“I think that with a high degree of certainty we have him in custody,” Trump said, before sharing how the suspect was turned in.
“And essentially went to the father, went to a US marshal, who was fantastic, by the way,” Trump explained. “The person was involved with law enforcement but was a person of faith, a minister, and brought him to a US marshal who was fantastic … They drove him to the police headquarters.”
“I hope he gets the death penalty,” he added.
In a news conference on Wednesday shortly after Charlie‘s death, Utah governor Spencer Cox said, “This is a dark day for our state. It’s a tragic day for our nation. I want to be very clear that this is a political assassination.”
“We have a person of interest in custody. The investigation is ongoing,” he continued. “But I want to make it crystal clear right now to whoever did this — we will find you. We will try you, and we will hold you accountable to the furthest extent of the law.”
“And I just want to remind people that we still have the death penalty here in the state of Utah,” Governor Cox noted.
Trump also recently shared an update on Charlie Kirk‘s wife is doing following her husband’s death.
