What Sofia Pernas’ Tracker Return Means for Justin Hartley’s Love Life

Justin Hartley‘s wife Sofia Pernas is coming back for season 3 of Tracker — but what does it mean for Colter’s love life?

During an exclusive interview with Us Weekly, executive producer Elwood Reid confirmed Pernas’ return, saying, “She’ll be back. We have a really good, spicy midseason finale and Billie is coming back in the winter premiere.”

Pernas, 36, reprising her role as Billie doesn’t mean Colter will finally settle down.

“It’s tricky because he’s never in one place for very long. These are conversations that I have with Justin all the time. One thing I think makes the show work is early on in each episode, you get an emotional hook with Colter about him wanting to help the person that’s asked him for help,” Reid explained. “It does feel weird where he’s like, ‘Hey, wait a minute, I’m gonna go for a five-minute booty call in the middle of the episode.’ So that’s something we haven’t been doing.”

Justin Hartley and Sofia Pernas reunited on screen up for one episode of CBS’ Tracker — and that’s only the beginning. Tracker, which premiered in February 2024, is centered around a survivalist named Colter (Hartley) who travels the country helping people and law enforcement tackle a variety of mysteries. As the series unfolds, viewers learn […]

After teasing Colter and Billie’s connection, the fictional couple took their relationship to the next level in season 2. Reid hinted that Tracker will build upon that momentum while simultaneously expanding Billie’s individual story line.

“The challenge with Billy is [that] she’s a fellow tracker. She does what Colter does. So whenever you have her in an episode, you always have to figure out something for both of them to do,” he noted. “They’re both two alphas when they’re together. We found a really fun way to use her this season.”

Tracker marks the third time Pernas has worked with her husband. Hartley, 48, first shared the screen with Pernas on The Young and The Restless in 2015. Years later, they reconnected off screen and exchanged vows in 2021. Along with Tracker, they collaborated on the short-lived Quantum Leap reboot.

“She’s wonderful. I mean, if I had my choice, I’d spend every minute with her,” Hartley gushed to Us in July 2024. “What’s really cool is when you meet someone that means so much to you, that you’re so proud to be with and so proud of, and just such a fan of, and to get to see her work, because she’s such a talented actor. She elevates scenes, and so it makes my job easier, actually. But yeah, it’s just wonderful to work with her.”

In addition to Pernas, Tracker has also struck gold with a wide variety of guest stars who keep returning, including Jensen Ackles, Melissa Roxburgh and Jennifer Morrison. Reid specifically addressed Ackles’ return in season 3 — and whether his scenes are setting up for a spinoff.

“I just threw [spinoff hints] in there hoping fans do some work. We just threw in a bunch of teases in these two upcoming episodes. [Jensen and Justin] [are] so much fun together and they compliment each other in a weird way,” Reid added. “Jensen does not do what Justin does and Justin doesn’t do what Jensen does. They’re so interesting together to watch and then they play off each other in such an interesting way.”

He continued: “I will always take Jensen whenever he’s available. I text him all the time and ask him about that. Right now he’s gainfully employed on The Boys spinoff. But you never know. I put it in those scripts and I dangle it out there. Hopefully the audience will respond to it and hopefully the network will pay attention to it. But Jensen is someone who I’ve loved writing for for a long time.”

Tracker returns to CBS on Sunday, October 19, at 8 p.m. ET before streaming the next day on Paramount+.
