President Donald Trump has announced that a peace plan has been signed off by Israel and Hamas.
The U.S president claims that as part of the plan, all of the Israeli hostages will be released by Hamas and that Israel will withdraw troops from Gaza.
Head inside to read his statement…
Trump announced the news on Wednesday night (October 8) on his Truth Social account.
“I am very proud to announce that Israel and Hamas have both signed off on the first Phase of our Peace Plan,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “This means that ALL of the Hostages will be released very soon, and Israel will withdraw their Troops to an agreed upon line as the first steps toward a Strong, Durable, and Everlasting Peace. All Parties will be treated fairly! This is a GREAT Day for the Arab and Muslim World, Israel, all surrounding Nations, and the United States of America, and we thank the mediators from Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey, who worked with us to make this Historic and Unprecedented Event happen. BLESSED ARE THE PEACEMAKERS!”
Hours before making the announcement, Trump had told reporters that he was planning to go to Egypt for the peace negotiations.
The news comes almost exactly two years after the October 7 attacks in Israel, which resulted in nearly 1,200 deaths and the capture of 251 hostages. Israel declared war on Hamas and the military attacks have resulted in the deaths of over 67,000 Palestinians, according to reports.
Trump recently revealed an interesting goal for the next year.
