Connor Franta is finally speaking out about his long-rumored romance with Troye Sivan.
On Sunday (August 24), the 32-year-old YouTuber posted a five-minute video on his channel titled “my good side,” where he reflected on a past two-year relationship that fans believe was with the “Rush” singer.

The pair reportedly dated from 2014 to 2016, though they never publicly confirmed the relationship at the time. Last August, Connor appeared on the podcast Obsessed with Brooke Averick and mentioned discovering one of Chappell Roan’s first YouTube videos with his “boyfriend at the time” in 2014, fueling renewed speculation about his rumored romance with Troye.
“We found the song, it had like no plays, but her voice was unbelievable, so we started tweeting about it… ‘She’s the next Adele,’” he said.
Internet sleuths resurfaced an old photo of Connor and Troye with a young Chappell, and the pic popped up again last week when Troye reposted it with Connor cropped out, writing, “FYI I found that pic online doing my weekly Google of ‘Troye Sivan and Chappell Roan‘, not my crop!!!!!”
The next day, Connor shared the same shot with Troye cropped out and captioned it “My good side,” seemingly nodding to Troye’s 2018 track, “The Good Side.” In his August 24 YouTube upload, Connor kicked off with, “What in the 2014 is going on?” before addressing the long-rumored relationship directly.
“There is no drama,” he said. “There is no tea. I think you maybe clicked on it for one or the other. However, there is no bad blood between my former boyfriend and myself.”
He added that years after their split, the two unexpectedly reconnected at an event and “it went over very smoothly.”
“We actually inevitably did meet up much later than the song would suggest, years after that. We bumped into each other out of nowhere at an event and for the first time both of us actually engaged in conversation in like years and it went over very smoothly.”
Connor admitted that, for years, the relationship loomed large in his mind.
“I think in many ways I felt like you know he was the boogeyman to me. I felt like when you’re running away from wanting to talk to someone or confront someone or have a hard conversation, it can feel like you’re climbing Mount Everest, and then inevitably you just make it out to be something much scarier and larger than it actually is,” he explained.
Toward the end of the video, Connor seemed to confirm the inspiration behind Troye’s song, saying, “The f–king horrible thing about that song is that like I mean he was right, but he was also completely wrong. I think he got the good side of things emotionally, but I think in many ways a song like that neglects the idea that people are individuals and everyone chooses their own path in life. I think the good side of life is completely subjective, and the older I get, the more I realize I’m living my good side.”
Connor closed with a heartfelt message: “The final words I have are actually for him. If you happen to be watching this, I just wanted to let you know that I’m proud of you, too, for every single thing that you’ve done.”
