The Chi star Lynn Whitfield is opening up about her dramatic exit from the show!
The season 7 finale of The Chi was full of emotional twists and turns. One of the biggest shocks was the death of Alicia Daniels Lafayette, played by Lynn. Alicia’s death was the final twist in a long line of twists and turns in Alicia’s journey to learn the truth of what happened to her son.
The 72-year-old actress that played the role of Alicia on The Chi recently spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about her character’s demise on the show and how it came as a surprise to her, just like to the viewers!

According to Lynn‘s interview with THR, she didn’t know that Alicia’s death was coming until she got a script for an episode “mid-season, maybe the fifth episode or so.”
“It was really an interesting journey for me,” Lynn said. “Because so often I am playing that strong character that finds a way [and] that learns a lesson. And I honestly felt there was a possibility for [Alicia] to learn something, particularly with her grandson coming.”
According to Lynn, Alicia dying wasn’t the only surprise.
“We didn’t know until the last episode who was going to do it. I would like to have been in the writers room [as] they were deciding,” she told the publication.
