“She’s spicy. She is a fighter. She knows what she believes in and she stands up for it. I love characters like that.” Sydney also says she loves “seeing movies that have just fully embraced female rage.”

Her dream could become reality, as Freida has written several follow-ups to the 2022 novel, including two full-length sequels—The Housemaid’s Secret and The Housemaid Is Watching—as well as a short story titled The Housemaid’s Wedding.

Both Freida and director Paul Feig have told People they’re open to making additional sequels.

“That would be a dream. I know Paul Feig would do an amazing job in the sequel. He’s incredible,” Freida says.

Paul previously directed A Simple Favor, another female-led psychological thriller based on a novel, which received a sequel earlier this year, Another Simple Favor.
