Sinéad O’Connor Biopic in the Works From ‘Nothing Compares’ Documentary Team

A movie about the early life and career of Sinéad O’Connor is officially in development.

Irish production company ie: entertainment, which executive produced the acclaimed 2022 documentary Nothing Compares, is behind the new project, per Variety.

The film will be directed by Josephine Decker (Shirley) from a script by Irish writer Stacey Gregg.

Sinéad died in 2023 at the age of 56. She became one of Ireland’s most celebrated musicians and a trailblazer for women worldwide. Her sophomore album, I Do Not Want What I Haven’t Got, topped the Billboard chart for six weeks in 1990 and featured her iconic hit “Nothing Compares 2 U,” which won multiple global awards. She also made history as the first woman to win MTV Video of the Year.

Beyond her music, she was a vocal activist, using her platform to speak out against sexism and the Catholic Church, including her infamous 1992 Saturday Night Live appearance, when she tore up a photo of Pope John Paul II on live television.

The biopic will explore her early years and rise to fame, telling the story of how a young woman from Dublin took on the world while challenging powerful institutions.
