Rebecca Gayheart is sharing rare insight into her separation from Eric Dane and their situation as they navigate his ALS diagnosis.
If you didn’t know, the 53-year-old Grey’s Anatomy actor announced back in April that he has been diagnosed with the neurodegenerative disease that effects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord.
For some backstory, in March, the 54-year-old actress requested the dismissal of her divorce petition against Eric more than 7 years after she initially filed. If you don’t know, they married back in 2004 and share two daughters, Billie, 15, and Georgia, 13.

“He is our family. He is your father. We show up, and we try to do it with some dignity and some grace and just get through it,” she shared on the “Broad Ideas” podcast.
She added that the situation has been “complicated,” continuing, “We’ve been separated for eight years. The kids live with me 100 percent of the time. There’s been lots of just stuff, other stuff. I try to stay optimistic, though, about it all. I’m trying to learn from it and [be a] role model for them [for] how to go through something like this, which is really hard.”
She continued, “I don’t know if I’m doing it well or if I’m doing it in the wrong way or the right way. I’m just showing up. I’m showing up, and I’m trying to be there for them. I guess time will tell.”
