Practical Magic 2 is officially on the way, and one of its new stars is spilling details about the highly anticipated sequel.
The original 1998 film, based on Alice Hoffman’s novel, followed sisters Sally and Gillian Owens as they navigated love, life, and a generations-old family curse. Now, the story will continue, inspired by Hoffman’s 2021 follow-up book The Book of Magic.
Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman are set to reprise their iconic roles, with the film hitting theaters on September 18, 2026.
Producer Denise Di Novi told Entertainment Weekly, “We’re not going to reinvent the wheel. We know how special these characters are to so many people.”
One new addition to the magical world is Lee Pace, whose role is still under wraps.

“We’ve started filming and it is as cool as you think it is,” he told TV Insider.
Lee also teased that, just like the original, the sequel will use practical effects over CGI. “There’s no CGI. Like, the spells were spells. I love that the calling tree equals all of the neighborhood ladies standing around with broomsticks in their hands. It’s great. It’s brilliant.”
Lee has a fun connection to the cast: he and Sandra previously appeared in the 2006 film Infamous, though they didn’t share scenes. This time, they will.
