Piers Morgan wished Donald Trump in public good luck at high-stakes talks in Alaska to end the war in Ukraine. Morgan commented that it was “refreshing” to see Trump choose peace over war, which stirred mixed reactions on Twitter.

An image on the tweet showed Trump disembarking from the plane in his usual suit and red tie attire, but the eagle-eyed netizens thought they spotted some kind of red knee pads peeping out from under his trouser leg. Red knee pads had immediately drawn attention: One user asked, “Why is he wearing red knee pads?!” Another declared, “He’s about to spend a lot of time on his knees.”
But for some, the sight played no giggles. They made fun of the moment to mock Trump’s foreign policy, suggesting that knee pads may be needed to kneel to Putin. Others doubted Trump’s commitment to peace since he had waged wars and supported conflicts, such as what is still the crisis in Gaza: “What about the one in Gaza, when is he stopping it?” was the frustrated question of one commenter.
I saw the pic on my feed and mistakenly believed it was a live one, and didn’t spot the mocked up kneepads. I couldn’t understand why so many people were laughing and raging about it. Then I realised, deleted it and reposted with another pic. My words remained the same…

Some stood behind Morgan’s view: “Peace is always better than war,” a user agreed with the broadcaster’s optimism. Another added, “Anybody sane would wish Trump luck, for all our sakes.”
The discourse itself quickly became embroiled in broader geopolitical arguments, with some claiming that Trump enabled Russian aggression in asking that Ukraine give up territory. “He wants to set a precedent that the stronger one can get what he wants no matter the rights of the other,” the critic said. The Trump defenders mocked the claim with, “I accept your surrender.”
This opened more discussions on Trump’s association with Putin. Another commentator claimed that the Russian leader would “play Trump like a toddler,” whereas another warned that the ex-president might “sacrifice Ukraine to divert public attention” from scandals such as the Epstein case.
Amid all of this, a few urged remembering the human costs of war. “They were simply living their lives peacefully before getting invaded by a tyrant,” reminded one user, referring to the Ukraine situation.
Will Alaska finally bring about real breakthroughs? That is yet to be seen. However, if one were to judge by the online chatter, the political world is watching-and already has taken sides.
Red knee pads are the greatest mystery of the Internet in the present-day-hours. Were they a statement? Were they pragmatic for long-haul flights? Or were they simply an unfortunate trick of the light? In any case, they have attracted almost as much attention as have the peace talks.
