There is a prevailing fan theory from Only Murders in the Building involving one character.
The theory involves actor Michael Cyril Creighton, who has played the role of Howard in all five seasons of the show. He’s one of the only characters to appear in a series regular capacity apart from the main trio (Selena Gomez, Martin Short, and Steve Martin.)
This has led some to believe that Howard could be the main, overarching villain, as his continued time in the spotlight could be seen as unusual.
However, Michael is now responding to the theory and is sharing that there’s just one issue he has with this.

If Michael were the main villain, his character, he says, would never have poisoned Oliver’s dog. Howard is a noted animal lover throughout the show.
“The only thing I will say that I can 1,000 percent guarantee Howard did not do is poison a dog, because I would never let it happen. There’s no way that man did it. That would be such a betrayal of the character. So, I hope that’s not the case,” Michael told Us Weekly.
