My Best Friend’s Wedding is getting a sequel!

The 1997 romantic comedy, which starred Julia Roberts and Dermot Mulroney, has a sequel in early development at Sony Pictures, Variety reports.

The studio has writer-director MaterialistsCeline Song writing a screenplay for the project, though she is not in talks to direct.

Dermot previously teased that “there is talk of a sequel” to the New York Post days before this news broke.

“I know nothing about it. Last I heard, quote, lawyers were talking, unquote,” he teased.

Celine Song‘s debut Past Lives earned $42 million globally and scored Oscar nominations for original screenplay and best picture.

In the 1997 original, when a woman’s long-time friend reveals he’s engaged, she realizes she loves him herself and sets out to get him, with only days before the wedding.

Dermot also revealed how the movie actually hurt his career!
