According to Deadline, production on season two has been delayed “due to cast issues,” and the future is now unclear.
Back in December, it was revealed that Anora breakout Mark Eydelshteyn was joining the series as the new Mr Smith with Billie Eilish no longer eyeing the Mrs Smith role, after previously circling the project.
In February, Sophie Thatcher was then attached to take on the leading role.
Amazon MGM Studios, the production studio behind the hit show, received a tax credit in March to relocate to Los Angeles from New York where the first season was filmed.
Since then, several actors were rumored for guest star or recurring roles, including Lily-Rose Depp, Francesca Scorsese, Levon Hawke, Wagner Moura and Gael Garcia Bernal.
Season two was initially looking to start production this fall and now, New Regency, who co-produces, is looking to start pre-production by end of year to start filming in 2026.
The series showrunner, Francesca Sloane, also just signed a deal with HBO and is set to write the first episode of the upcoming third season of Big Little Lies!
