One family’s Elf on the Shelf didn’t go quite as planned this year.
In a TikTok post, a mom who goes by the username @behind_da_pine shared how she accidentally removed the elf’s entire face while trying to erase eyeliner she had drawn on it.
At first, she explained, she didn’t think it would be a problem and assumed she could simply redraw the face. That plan, however, didn’t go as she’d hoped.
“Turned out I overestimated my artistic capabilities,” she said in the video, covering the elf’s face with her hands.
Replacing the elf wasn’t an option, she added.
“I am not buying another elf this year, it’s just not happening,” she said. “These elves are way too overpriced, and I had to DoorDash this one to my house while my daughter was in the bath on Dec. 1 because I actually forgot. She came home from school talking about how all her friends had elves, and she wondered why she didn’t get one. I couldn’t have that happen. So I spent the extra money to have it DoorDashed, now look what I’ve done.”
After uncovering the face, the mom zoomed in on the elf to reveal a botched face with eyes painted in white and blue.
Now, she’s seeking advice on how to fix it.
“So give me your best face-lift Elf on the Shelf ideas, something that will cover her face completely,” she said. “We have seven days till Christmas, I can make this work. I just need some ideas, please help.”

Since posting, the video has gone viral, reaching over 6 million views and 12,000 comments from people suggesting ways to solve the problem.
“Spa day?” one user wrote, suggesting she put cucumbers on the elf’s eyes.
“Face in couch digging for change,” another person commented.
Someone else added, “Tell them it was from too much screen time lol.”
Later, the mom shared a follow-up video on TikTok showing what she decided to do: give the elf a makeover with Elf cosmetics.
“POV you washed the elf’s face off but lash clusters saved the day,” she wrote on the video.
