Look, we all know Meghan Markle has more than her fair share of haters, but THIS?!
Okay, let’s start from the beginning here… Fans first started speculating on Meg’s “green gown gate” back in 2024 when journalist Vanessa Grigoriadis claimed on the Heretics podcast that the Duchess of Sussex took “a lot of stuff” with her after a big photoshoot:
“What’s shocking about hearing these kinds of alleged stories is that somebody living in a $15-million-plus mansion in Montecito, who’s had $100-million deals, would care enough to take home some jewelry and clothes from a photoshoot she can afford.”
This scandal resurfaced this week after Netflix dropped the new trailer for With Love, Meghan: Holiday Celebration. In the trailer, she can be seen wearing a $1,695, off the shoulder Galvan gown in emerald green. See for yourself (below):

This dress, though? Fans quickly pointed out how it was the SAME DRESS from her 2022 photoshoot with Variety! Look at slide four in the carousel (below):

So… Did Meghan really steal it? Fans were starting to think so — especially since this wasn’t the first time for her to be accused of such a thing. A source for PageSix even came forward claiming she “took the dress from the shoot without asking” and the people on set noticed the gown had gone missing! Oof…
But her reps quickly shut all of that down. They told E! News on Tuesday:
“The insinuation that any items were taken without the full knowledge and agreement of the on-set stylists or their respective teams is not only categorically false, but also highly defamatory. Any items kept were done so in total transparency and in accordance with contractual arrangements.”
But sources are still coming forward with their own takes! A source close to Prince Harry‘s wife told The Royalist following this statement that it was “standard practice” for celebs to take home garments after photoshoots to prevent “unauthorized auctions”. Meanwhile, a source echoed a similar sentiment to PageSix, claiming her dress was royally archived:
“As a royal, she was required to archive all her looks. It was known that when things were pulled that they may not be returned.”
Another insider claimed that rule to be a total “fib,” though! Lots of differing opinions here… But really, we think this is just a total mess. Lots of celebs get to keep their photoshoot garments.
Another fashion source for The Royalist dished that this is likely just a big misunderstanding — but still points fingers at Meghan’s reps for not clarifying whether she paid for it or not, considering that was a big issue many people had with it:
“It’s pretty clear she just wanted the dress and kept it. I’m sure the designer agreed. How could they not? What’s interesting is that she doesn’t say she paid for it.”
We mean, this sounds like a bunch of nonsense, in the end. We really doubt Meghan would STEAL a dress — and then be bold enough to wear it for her Netflix show! We’re sure to be able to walk off that set with the dress, she and the designer came to some sort of agreement. Like we said, it happens all the time with celebs.
