Leigh-Anne Pinnock fan is criticised for creating ‘disgusting’ viral death hoax as Little Mix star promotes her new single Dead And Gone

Fans of Leigh-Anne Pinnock have hit out at a viral death hoax circulating about the singer.

The Little Mix star is preparing to release her new single Dead and Gone on Friday October 17, but one fan-made piece of promo has been slammed as ‘disgusting’.

A post on X, shared by an account called @idolnfusion which has no association with the singer, features Leigh-Anne’s photo in a mocked up breaking news bulletin under the headline ‘Little Mix Star Found Dead.’

A news ticker reads: ‘Leigh-Anne Pinnock of Little Mix is dead and gone.’

A further post from the same account recreates a murder scene with the caption: ‘Sources have reported that Little Mix star Leigh-Anne was allegedly involved in a crime scene at her London home, near her pool.’

‘Footage from the incident appears to suggest that the Leigh-Anne we once knew and loved is…DEAD AND GONE’.

Fans hit out at the posts with one writing: ‘I’m sorry but seeing that headline appear as a notification is really shi**y PR for a single, my heart actually stopped, very insensitive post.’

‘This post was is actually really disgusting and is also speaking negatively over her life and I doubt Leigh would approve of this.. the tongue is power, you need to take this down,’ agreed another.

‘Hey so there’s better ways to play into her dead and gone song concept without using a widely known news format that’s used to announce people’s ACTUAL deaths. This almost sent me into a panic.’

The account responded to the criticism, writing: ‘Omg everyone’s taking this way too seriously. the photo literally says “dead & gone.”

‘I was just recreating a murder scene like she did in the promo playing into her “killing her old self” concept from her “ctrl.alt.leigh” insta. Didn’t mean to scare y’all!’

Leigh-Anne hasn’t commented herself on the posts.

She has been promoting her new single over the past week, sharing snippets of the track and declaring: ‘Before we begin… a moment of silence for who I used to be Dead and Gone out next Friday.’

The OMG hitmaker is releasing brand-new music after she revealed she had left record label Warner Music Group earlier this year.

Leigh-Anne signed with Warner as a solo artist in 2022 and released her EP, No Hard Feelings, the following year.

But her solo career stalled after Warner ‘wouldn’t pay for a music video’ for her last single after she reportedly ‘failed to impress’ with her other tracks.

More than a year later, Leigh-Anne revealed she was returning to music this year – but had gone independent.

Posting on her TikTok, Leigh-Anne said: ‘It’s been a bit of a weird time, going through some stuff with my current label. It’s a whole thing.’

The star continued: ‘I couldn’t really say anything as well, so it seemed a bit ‘Where’s Leigh-Anne? Where’s the music? What’s going on?’

‘And I felt I couldn’t really explain what was actually happening.’

She explained: ‘Obviously I left my label and I’m now with Virgin. I’m fully independent guys eek!

‘Like honestly, it’s been the most amazing thing foor me, I think, I feel like it needed to happen to be honest.

‘You think I’ve been in this industry for how long now? What’s the point doing it if I’m not doing it my way?

‘It just doesn’t make sense, so that’s all positive now and I feel really excited and really good.’

A representative for Leigh-Anne has been contacted by Daily Mail for comment.
