NEED TO KNOW
- Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said in an X post on Monday, Dec. 1, that she and President Donald Trump are discussing broader travel bans
- Noem recommended a “full travel ban on every damn country that’s been flooding our nation with killers, leeches, and entitlement junkies”
- Noem’s post comes days after Trump, 79, announced that his administration will “permanently pause” migration from all “Third World Countries”
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem is urging President Donald Trump to implement more restrictions on foreign travelers coming into the United States.
On Monday, Dec. 1, the politician posted to X, saying she met with Trump about implementing wider travel bans “on every damn country that’s been flooding our nation with killers, leeches, and entitlement junkies.”
Her post continued: “Our forefathers built this nation on blood, sweat, and the unyielding love of freedom—not for foreign invaders to slaughter our heroes, suck dry our hard-earned tax dollars, or snatch the benefits owed to AMERICANS. WE DON’T WANT THEM. NOT ONE.”

Noem’s post comes days after Trump, 79, announced that his administration will “permanently pause” migration from all “Third World Countries.” The president did not identify any countries by name or clarify how he would pause migration.
In a Nov. 27 post to his Truth Social account, Trump said that the so-called permanent pause will “allow the U.S. system to fully recover, terminate all of the millions of Biden illegal admissions, including those signed by Sleepy Joe Biden’s autopen, and remove anyone who is not a net asset to the United States,” adding, “Only REVERSE MIGRATION can fully cure this situation.”
The announcement was made following the shooting of two National Guard members, Andrew Wolfe and Sarah Beckstrom, in Washington, D.C. on Nov. 26. Beckstrom, 20, died from her injuries on Nov. 27; Wolfe, 24, remains hospitalized in critical condition following surgery.
Rahmanullah Lakanwal, an Afghan national, is a suspect in the shooting and now faces multiple charges, including first-degree murder, U.S. Attorney for D.C. Jeanine Pirro announced on Fox & Friends on Friday, Nov. 28. Lakanwal, 29, an Afghan national, served alongside U.S. troops in Afghanistan. During the Biden administration, he came to the U.S. in 2021 and lived in Washington state with his family, the Associated Press reported, citing officials.
He was granted asylum in April during the Trump administration, per the outlet. Trump previously said he was “looking at” deporting Lakanwal’s wife and five children.

Days later, on Nov. 30, Noem, 54, said on Meet the Press that authorities believe Lakanwal was “radicalized since he’s been here in this country.”
“We do believe it was through connections in his home community and state, and we’re going to continue to talk to those who interacted with him,” she added.
Trump and Noem’s recent comments also follow the Justice Department’s admission in a Nov. 25 court filing that Noem made the decision to continue deportation flights in defiance of a judge’s order, CNN reported.
Noem continued to permit deportation flights transporting migrants to an El Salvador prison, in defiance of a federal Judge James Boasberg’s order for the planes to turn around, the filing acknowledged per CNN.
