“It gets real,” Kristen told Variety‘s Marc Malkin. “The world gets bigger, the plotlines get much more like real life, and they’re dealing with some very real issues.”
Adam also said that “sh-t gets real” this season. “We’ve made the commitment, what does that look like? How does that work in the light of day?” he adds.
Kristen and Adam also dished on having his real-life wife, Leighton Meester, guest star on the show.
“Our creative team wrote the frenemy who Joanne had to both admire and be threatened by, and they said, ‘What if Leighton would do this?’ I mean, she doesn’t need to guest on this show, but wouldn’t that be cool if she came and played. Then they asked Adam and he was like, ‘Yeah, ask her. That’d be great,’” Kristen shared. “I’m so grateful to her that she came and did it and she’s so funny in this show, and I’m really happy to be able to showcase that. She’s quite an improv artist.”
Adam added, “[It was] lovely as it always is. Lovely having her here tonight. You know, this show has become such a close group of people to me, behind the scenes as well. To have her and them all work together intimately and get to know everyone intimately, and now she’s made so many relationships on this show. It’s the best.”
