In a fiery monologue, Joy Ann Reid said all that were on her mind about mediocrity, hypocrisy, and racial entitlement of Trump and his MAGAs. The clip was posted on Instagram with the caption “Stay thirsty, #maga ☕️✌🏿,” and within minutes, there was an intense discussion in the comment section among followers who expressed their support of the scathing critique.

Reid’s angry critique of Trump had its genesis during a dialogue on Wajahat Ali’s Substack when she cleared the air about every aspect of the character Trump. “He’s sloppy. He’s unkempt. Everything about him is false,” Reid went on with a condemnation that knew no bounds, citing his failed business ventures and way of life: “His marriage is a fraud. Melania clearly won’t even touch him,” referring to the First Lady’s apparent discomfort in mingling.
But there was more. Linking his coming forth with what she refers to as an American tradition of supporting white mediocrity while suppressing Black excellence, she said, “He’s a fuck-up, but he’s able to be a success because white America keeps saying, ‘No, no, no—that guy is what success looks like.”” Reid associating that concept with Trump further posited that even the alternative reality forged through his reality television was a sham—the almost diminished reality that was present even in the boardroom on The Apprentice.
This set the crowd cheering for Reid; the comment section was spotted almost entirely with salutes. “THE LIBRARY IS OPEN !!!” said a commenter while another authoritatively stated, “No crumbs, wigs, edges left behind. And all facts upon facts upon more facts.” The enthusiasm called for fire emojis from many commenters.
She then cast further aspersions upon MAGA, portraying it as some kind of anti-diversity force in theories that would reduce competition from marginalized groups. “They don’t have to worry about competing with somebody like me who got into Harvard and Yale,” she said about her own education. “Why compete when you can just demand entry because of who you are demographically?”
The followers were backing her in full force, and many applauded her for speaking her mind. “Mam’ not one lie was told, not a one!” said one comment, and another user remarked, “MAGA = Mediocre And Gullible Americans,” summarizing the sentiment at hand.

Reid closed with a taunt to the MAGA: “Stay mad. Stay really mad.” Judging by the reaction to her statements, her words hit home exactly as intended—with strength, with precision, and with zero apologies. Whether her detractors will ever answer back remains to be seen for now; her mic drop moment has left her crowd thoroughly entertained and her detractors, as she so aptly puts it, “thirsty.”
