Joe Jonas, Nick Jonas and Kevin Jonas are reflecting on the songs that have defined their careers.
The brothers appeared on the premiere episode of NBC’s new four-part special Songs & Stories with Kelly Clarkson on Tuesday (August 19), where they sat down with host Kelly Clarkson to discuss some of their most meaningful tracks, including “Year 3000,” “Little Bird” and “Love Me to Heaven.”
When it came time to revisit 2008’s “When You Look Me in the Eyes,” Joe opened up about the personal connection behind the song.

“It’s a song we wrote with our dad and we wrote it many years ago,” he explained. “I remember recording it in the basement in an office building in New Jersey and we had to be really quiet when we walked through the hallways.”
Kelly joked that the situation sounded “so inspiring,” while Nick chimed in that the recording space “definitely wasn’t sanctioned.”
Even after all this time, Joe said the track remains one of their staples.
“It was really special to be able to create this song with our dad and years later still play it and all these fans come to our shows and sing it,” he said.
“Honestly it’s one of the earlier songs we can think of that kind of reflects, I guess, young love, finding out who we are as people, traveling the world and this one we’ll play forever.”
The Jonas Brothers recently performed the song at their JONAS20: Greetings From Your Hometown Tour stop at MetLife Stadium, where their parents, younger brother Franklin, Kevin’s wife Danielle and his daughters Alena, 11, and Valentina, 8, all joined them on stage for a special family performance.
New episodes of Songs & Stories with Kelly Clarkson will air on August 26, September 2 and September 9 with even more special guests.
