The biggest from our generation, Jodie Sweetin really has come a long way to create the second phase of her life into comedy. Smoke Show is the newest extravaganza Jodie has put her name behind to mix pageantry and stand-up into the LA way of fun. Sweetin explains passionately in her promo video about a show she calls “LA’s only comedy pageant,” where comics practically vie for the crown.

Sweetin has really put quite a lot of thought into it: Three comedians perform, the audience makes the decisions, and everyone gets free drinks to enjoy. September 20th will feature Comedy extravaganze as Chris Cope, Fiza Adosani, and Dana Moon come on down to compete in some of the comedic chaos led by Sweetin herself.

Fifteen dollars in advance or twenty at the door is nothing to scoff at as a cheap night out in a city so reputed to be pricey. Doors open at 7 PM at VSpoke LA, with the show beginning an hour later, at 8.

The comment section proved mixed-varied from genuine excitement to the usual online negativity. One commenter stated, “My God, you are gorgeous! ❤️” while others observed, “Is this Stefanie from Full house? So beautifull 😍😍😍,” demonstrating just how many remember Sweetin’s childhood fame.

Some were not so quick to use the hugging emoji. “Not a good time for comedy 🎭,” said one seeming outsider, and there was immediate pushback from the mad throng, many of whom justified their stance, saying that comedy needed to be at the forefront now more than ever, while one optimistically wrote, “we need comedy more than ever!!,” another averred, “Any time is good for comedy ❤️❤️❤️.”

Questions became more pragmatic as well. “What about December?” asked one commenter. The official account posted in reply that there would be shows in October and November before a break and return in January. Then another worried voice was heard: “Oh jello shots I don’t drink,” only to be countered full of hope by an announcement stating non-alcoholic options.

The event marks Sweetin’s triumph in proving her change from child star to comedy producer and host. The excitement for the format communicated by Sweetin in her video and words alike is contagious. “It’s a pageant, it’s comedy, it’s a party.” LA comedy aficionados really want something different from the usual club shows-the lure of competition, free drinks, and cheap tickets is, after all, hard to resist.

Smoke Show is on the rise in L.A. comedy and gives its contestants-from established to emerging-a stage to compete while the audience gets to take an active role in deciding who walks away with the crown. This unique familiarity is carving out space in SoCal entertainment thanks to the presence of Sweetin.
