Apple TV quietly postpones Jessica Chastain domestic terrorism thriller following Charlie Kirk assassination

The Savant, an Apple TV+ thriller starring Jessica Chastain, has been postponed in the wake of Charlie Kirk’s murder.

The limited series cast Chastain, 48, as a character named Jodi Goodwin, who is described in a logline as an undercover agent adept at the infiltration of ‘online hate groups in an effort to stop domestic extremists before they act.’

The show had been slated to debut Friday with two of its eight episodes, but has since been postponed indefinitely in the wake of the massive political schisms in the U.S. following Kirk‘s tragic passing after he was fatally shot on a Utah college campus September 10.

Apple TV+ said in a statement Tuesday that the thriller was being pushed back to a ‘future date’ that has not been established yet.

‘After careful consideration, we have made the decision to postpone The Savant,’ a rep told People. ‘We appreciate your understanding and look forward to releasing the series at a future date.’

Daily Mail has reached out to reps for Jessica Chastain for comment on the developing story.

The character was seen in a preview for the limited series explaining her unique skill set.

‘I track people who are planning attacks,’ Chastain’s character Jodi said. ‘My job is pretending to think like them to stop those people from doing really bad things.’

Jodi is later heard assessing a suspect: ‘This guy isn’t just planning violence – he’s out to make a statement – the kind that history refers to with a month and a date.’

The limited series also stars Pablo Schreiber, Nnamdi Asomugha, Cole Doman, Jordana Spiro, Trinity Lee Shirley and Toussaint Francois Battiste.

The Oscar-winning star of The Eyes of Tammy Faye is also an executive producer on the streaming series.

Chastain previously told People about what she believed to be the show’s prevailing lesson.

Chastain said it encouraged viewers to guard their privacy amid the tumultuous times we are living in. She told the publication that ‘privacy has always been something that’s been very important’ to her.

‘I have taken social media off my phone,’ the Zero Dark Thirty actress said. ‘I have it now on an iPad, so I can – I still have access that I can use it for work, but I definitely want a separation between me and the Internet.’

The series on the tech giant’s entertainment streamer had been slated to conclude November 7. It was not immediately clear if Monday’s announcement would impact that date.

Chastain said that in addition to scuttling socials from her phone for privacy, she felt that it helped with her mental health amid the status quo of erratic algorithms.

‘I think more people should be encouraged to do that,’ the Molly’s Game star said.

Chastain continued: ‘It’s a very addictive thing and, it’s not as upsetting to me when it’s addictive when it’s, like, cute puppy videos.

‘But when it’s addictive and then it’s leading you to like really, really dark videos.’
