Jensen Ackles Reacts to ‘Countdown’ Cancelation After Series Left Off On a Cliffhanger

Jensen Ackles is speaking out about the cancelation of his Prime Video series Countdown.

The 47-year-old actor lead the cast as LAPD detective Mark Meachum, and it was just announced that the series will not be going forward with a second season.

In a new Instagram video, Jensen shared his thoughts on the news, following previous comments about the first season ending with a cliffhanger.

“As some of you may have seen already, Countdown did not get picked up for another season,” Jensen shared. “Amazon’s gonna let it go, and it’s a bummer because I had such an amazing time making that show. Had an absolute blast with the cast and the crew.”

He also thanked Amazon “for giving us the opportunity” and shouted out the show’s creator/writer and executives.

“Sometimes you can set out to do your best and check all those boxes, and ultimately it’s out of your hands,” he added. “That’s the way it goes in this industry.”

Jensen concludes he’s “thankful for the experience,” and, “We’ll see you down the road on something else, I guess.”

Just last month, Jensen shared that “it would suck” if the series just ended on the season finale cliffhanger.

“I think it was a smart writer choice to kind of wrap up the Season 1 storyline with three episodes to go. It gave Derek [Haas, creator and writer] an opportunity to start building towards a next big case and a next big sendoff, and it obviously leaves Season 1 ending on a huge cliffhanger,” he told Variety. “I think it was designed to lead into Season 2, so fingers crossed Amazon is still liking what they’re seeing, and the audience participation and the critics talking about it give us enough firepower to continue that story and see where this goes. Obviously, it would suck if it just ends there!”

While Countdown is not continuing, Jensen will still be seen in three shows, two of which are also on Prime Video.

The actor is reprising his role on the upcoming third season of Tracker, he’ll be seen in the upcoming fifth and final season of The Boys, and the new spinoff Vought Rising, which centers on his character from The Boys, and is currently filming.
