Jeff Probst Weighs in on Possibility of a Golden Survivor Season

‘Survivor’s Jeff Probst Teases Why Season 49 Was the “Antithesis of Loyalty”

Jeff Probst has tallied the votes on a possible golden-aged Survivor season.

And while the Golden Bachelor and Bachelorette spinoffs have been hits, the longtime host of the wilderness survival competition series—who admitted he’s heard “this idea from time to time”—isn’t sure the math works for his franchise.

“Here’s the truth as I see it,” Jeff said on the Oct. 15 episode of his On Fire with Jeff Probst podcast. “Based on the number of people over, let’s say 50, who apply and who we believe are interesting and compelling enough to be on the show and we believe can truly handle the intense physicality—I think if you just limited it to 50-and-over casting, it would be difficult to do two times per year.”

As he put it, “You’re looking at 40 people. I just don’t think it would work, personally.”

But in addition to the logistical challenges of filling out an over 50 cast, Jeff also noted that having a cast of the same generation would eliminate some of the fun, interpersonal dynamics that can be seen on the current Survivor 49 season.
