Japanese Idol Kenshin Kamimura Found Guilty of Indecent Assault

Kenshin Kamimura has been found guilty of indecent assault.

The 26-year-old J-pop idol and former member of boy groups Satori Boys Club and ONE N’ ONLY was convicted in a Hong Kong court on Wednesday (August 13) for indecently assaulting a female interpreter.

According to reports, Kenshin was arrested in March after allegedly touching the interpreter’s thigh repeatedly during a celebratory dinner. During the trial, the woman testified that Kenshin also invited her to a bathroom elsewhere, which she refused, telling him she had a boyfriend. She said he continued touching her thigh despite her rejection.

Judge Peter Yu said in court that Kenshin’s actions “carried a sexual undertone and had indecent intent” and called them “obviously disrespectful toward women.”

The defense claimed the woman exaggerated her account and that the bathroom invitation may not have had improper motives. They also argued that Kenshin had a promising career and had already “paid a heavy price.”

Following the verdict, some of Kenshin’s fans wept in the courtroom. The judge issued a fine of 15,000 Hong Kong dollars (about $1,900) and no prison term, despite the charge carrying a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison.

Supporters lined up early to attend the hearing, with many waiting outside to see Kenshin after the decision. The singer did not make a public statement before leaving in a car.

In addition to his music career, Kenshin has acted in TV dramas including Our Youth and Ossan’s Love Returns.
