On his heartfelt message for cast and crew, executive producer James Gunn announced the final release date for Peacemaker Season 2, and by then, the fans had gone wild. He posted a gorgeous black-and-white photo of his team and said he loves his ‘family’ before announcing that Peacemaker will be on HBO Max on August 21 and then worldwide release on August 22. The shot by Maarten de Boer for TV Insider suggests a group of understandably weary souls having a good time, even if John Cena is seemingly stuck in full Peacemaker costume as the fans would want from their very dedicated lead.

The moment the announcement had just come out, Pan Down enthusiastically urged on fellow viewership, stating that the first season was so perfectly acted and written with the right mix of action and comedy. I thought one comment described it well, ‘Peacemaker was such a brilliant show – each episode felt like a movie.’ Another talked about Cena’s dedication-wise-guy style: ‘I love that Cena refuses to take off the suit for the month before and after the premiere.’
Still, not all comments were celebrations. Some of the others took on firing their queries on Gunn regarding the greater DC Universe plans, with one fan wondering if future movies would take after the 1986 ‘Legends’ comic book series. Others seemed more concerned about continuity, wondering if the Justice League cameo in Season 1 would be treated as canon. A somewhat enthusiastic comment in Portuguese asked, ‘The first-season finale with the League: Is it still canon, or is Season 2 starting afresh?’ Gunn, as ever, left the question unanswered, allowing imaginations to run wild.
Meanwhile, the comments proved to be bitter triggers for a small faction of SnyderVerse fans demanding that Gunn resign; another called on Warner Bros. to sell the Snyder Cut to Netflix. But the negative comments faded away in the resounding cheer of others eager to see more of Gunn’s brand of irreverent storytelling.
In a funny way, a few eagle-eyed fans claimed that they spotted some minutiae in the pic, one slyly accusing a crew member in the background of recoloring his beard. Another asked about the identity of the lady in the foreground, showing that not a single scrap of Gunn’s posts escaped scrutiny.

The hype for the return of Peacemaker is already imminent with his Season 1 still so fresh in memory. Whether it’s because of Cena’s stubborn commitment to the role, Gunn’s perfect mixture of comedy and heart, or the promise of more shenanigans involving Vigilante and Harcourt, August cannot come soon enough! Along the lines of the first, the second season is already paving a huge path thanks to the reaction to this announcement.
