From stocking stuffers and pie filling to festive décor and last-minute wrapping paper, Dollar General is a one-stop shop for the holidays. However, the retail chain won’t be open on Christmas Day.

The move to keep its doors shut follows suit among its competitors, such as Family Dollar, Dollar Tree, Target and Walmart.

The discount store had extended hours at various locations leading up to Christmas Day and offered deals, including on more than 150 Christmas items at or below $1, such as stocking stuffers, ornaments, gift wrap and more.

Is Dollar General open on Christmas Day 2025?

No, Dollar General stores nationwide are closed on Christmas Day.

The retailer operates over 20,000 stores with plans to add 450 locations in the U.S. in 2026 (as well as 10 in Mexico) and remodel more than 4,000 stores.

“As America’s neighborhood general store in nearly 21,000 locations, we are focused on continuing to enhance our value and convenience proposition to serve both new and existing customers,” Todd Vasos, CEO of Dollar General, told investors in a 2025 earnings call.

He continued, “Looking ahead, we are confident in our long-term financial framework and our ability to create sustainable long-term value for our customers, associates, and shareholders.”

What are Dollar General’s hours on Christmas Day 2025?

Folks were able to do last-minute shopping at Dollar General on Christmas Eve, but the store is closed on Christmas Day.

Several of the company’s stores operated with extended hours leading up to the holiday.

Dollar General will reopen on Dec. 26, and hours can be verified via the store locator before heading out.

Is Dollar General offering any special shopping deals for Christmas Day 2025?

Dollar General ran the “24 Days of Savings” promo from Dec. 1 to Dec. 24, with the store unveiling a new deal daily.

It also offered weekly 3-day sales which included promos such as 50% off stockings, tree skirts, ornaments and garland, and buy one, get one half off on holiday candles and home décor.

“We’re proud to offer everyday essentials alongside fun finds that help make the season brighter,” Bryan Wheeler, Dollar General’s executive vice president and chief merchandising officer, said in a news release. “DG is committed to helping our customers celebrate the season without compromising on value.”
