Inside retired Socceroos star Aaron Mooy’s incredible $5.2million Byron Bay home

Retired Socceroo Aaron Mooy and his wife Nicola have snapped up a beautiful property in the Byron Bay region for a cool $5.2 million.

Located in bushland, 5 km from Bangalow township, 755km from Sydney, the sprawling ten-year-old home features five bedrooms and two bathrooms.

The 34-year-old former Premier League star bought the ultra-modern spread on the north coast of NSW in July after selling off his $3.6 million home in nearby Ewingsdale earlier this year.

Mooy took a loss on the sale, settling for $2.85 million, according to The Daily Telegraph.

His new home, meanwhile, is built on secluded hinterland country and covers an impressive 1.62 hectares.

Boasting stunning views of the surrounding bushland, the spread is bordered by an elegant hedgerow.

The architect-designed home features a creative layout where the main living areas open out to a covered entertainment deck that overlooks a gorgeous, tree-lined vista.

Highlights include a pool with deck, floor-to-ceiling windows, sandstone feature walls, a home office and a huge kitchen with a butler’s pantry.

There’s also a space separate from the main dwelling that hosts a media room and workshop.

The main bedroom, which occupies an entire corner of the home, meanwhile, offers a walk-in wardrobe and lavish en suite.

It comes after Mooy shocked sports fans three years ago when he revealed he was hanging up his boots for good.

The star, who played 57 games for the Socceroos, stunned the football world in June 2023 when he announced his retirement from international and club football with immediate effect, drawing his decorated career to a close.

Mooy, 32, who scored seven goals for Australia between 2012 and 2022, also took the pitch for two World Cups.

The former English Premier League midfielder finished his impressive club career with a short, trophy-laden stint at Scottish powerhouse Celtic under former Socceroos boss Ange Postecoglou.

‘I’ve been lucky enough to live out my dreams of playing for Australia,’ Mooy said in a statement at the time.

‘As a young kid, starting out in football you watch the national team on TV and imagine yourself there one day – to have lived that is something I’m truly grateful for.

Mooy’s final game for Australia was the 2023 World Cup round-of-16 loss to Argentina, his seventh appearance in the tournament.

Having begun his career in Europe, Mooy exploded to stardom at Melbourne City with a standout 2015-16, when he recorded 11 goals and an A-League record 20 assists.

He scored nine goals and notched six assists in 96 Premier League appearances across two clubs.

Mooy met his wife Nicola in Glasgow and the pair wed in 2017.  They share two children: a daughter, Skylar, 10, and a son, Maximilian, seven.
