The incredible fortune Hollywood icon Diane Keaton leaves behind after her death at the age of 79

Hollywood icon Diane Keaton has left behind an incredible fortune after her death at the age of 79.

A family spokesperson confirmed to People on Saturday that the Oscar-winning actress had passed away in California.

Her health reportedly took a sharp turn in recent months, and even her closest friends were unaware.

Due to her successful acting career in films like The Godfather, Annie Hall, Reds and Father of the Bride, as well as clever property investments, she amassed a whopping fortune over her life – estimated at $100million

Diane had two adopted children in her 50s, daughter Dexter and son Duke, whom she raised as a single mother. She never married so it’s likely her children will inherit the vast majority of her fortune.

In terms of real estate, in 2004, she purchased a property in Laguna Beach for $7.5 million, which she sold just two years later for $12.75 million.

The actress, who had a passion for interior design and flipping houses, also bought a home in Pacific Palisades for $5.6 million in 2012 and sold it in 2016 for $6.9 million, making another huge profit.

In addition, she bought a home in Tucson, Arizona, home for $1.5 million in 2018 and flipped it for $2.6 million in 2020.

Elsewhere, Diane had put her ‘dream home’ on the market as her health took a sudden turn prior to her shock death.

While she was privately going through a health battle, she had listed her beloved property in Los Angeles for sale in March.

Many people close to her were reportedly surprised as she had talked about living there permanently, according to the outlet.

The actress had written a book about her beloved home titled The House that Pinterest Built.

After purchasing the home, she started a nearly decade-long project to renovate the house to her taste and preference.

The extensive eight-year renovation was completed and she only moved in back in 2017.

However, earlier this year, she put the property on the market and listed her bespoke five-bedroom, seven-bathroom mansion for $29 million.

In the book she wrote about her home, she revealed that the inspiration to purchase that particular property was the famous children’s fable, The Three Little Pigs.

She recalled her mother reading her the story when she was young and decided she wanted to live in the third pig’s indestructible home, which was ‘made of bricks.’

She wrote in her book: ‘I knew I was going to live in a brick house when I grew up.’

After the devastating news of her shocking death, a friend of the actress revealed she had been quietly facing a progressive health battle in secrecy.

‘She declined very suddenly, which was heartbreaking for everyone who loved her,’ a friend of the actress told People.

‘It was so unexpected, especially for someone with such strength and spirit.’

The source said that ‘in her final months,’ the star was ‘surrounded only by her closest family, who chose to keep things very private.

‘Even longtime friends weren’t fully aware of what was happening,’ they shared.

In 2017, the same year she completed renovations and moved in, she did an interview with Wine Spectator.

However, she revealed she always had ‘an interest in homes’ but had always struggled with finding a place to ‘land and stay’ permanently.

As for her final Los Angeles home with her own personally designed renovations, she said: ‘Something’s right, because I love it.’

For many years, the award-winning actress kept to a steady routine at her beloved home but had stopped going on daily walks with her precious pooch in the months leading up to her death, an insider told the outlet.

‘She lived in Brentwood for many years,’ the source said. ‘She loved her neighborhood.’

The source continued: ‘Up until just a few months ago, she’d walk her dog every day. She was usually dressed the same, with a hat and her signature sunglasses regardless of the weather.’

The source added: ‘She was always very nice, funny and chatty. She’d talk to her dog like he was a person. She was eccentric and had this old-school Hollywood aura. She was very, very special.’

The Godfather star was seen smiling brightly and looking healthy as she posed with her dog Reggie in an April 11 Instagram post promoting a Hudson Grace dog statue and dog biscuits.

A family spokesperson confirmed to People the star passed away in California. No further details have been released.

Her loved ones have requested privacy as they mourn her loss.

Bette Midler led the tributes for the actress. The pair starred in the 1996 comedy-drama The First Wives Club.

‘I cannot tell you how unbearably sad this makes me. She was hilarious, and completely without guile, or any of the competitiveness one would have expected from such a star. What you saw was who she was…oh, la, lala!’

Piers Morgan also paid his respects on X, writing: ‘RIP Diane Keaton, 79. Oscar-winning star of Annie Hall, brilliant in the Godfather and Father of the Bride movies. One of Hollywood’s greatest actresses, and a delightful lady. Sad news.’

Actress Elizabeth Banks wrote on Instagram: ‘She was beloved in her industry. Every one of us idolizes her.

‘Her influence on culture, fashion, art and women can’t be overstated. She was a delight. I am proud I have a career that allowed me to meet her and breathe her air.’

Keaton’s Hollywood career spanned five decades from her early breakthrough in The Godfather trilogy to her Oscar-winning turn in Annie Hall.

She became a defining face of 1970s cinema and later cemented her legacy with hits like Baby Boom, Father of the Bride, The First Wives Club, and Something’s Gotta Give.

In recent years, she delighted audiences again with the Book Club films, proving her enduring appeal across generations.

She was born Diane Hall on January 5, 1946, in Los Angeles.

Keaton studied acting at Santa Ana College before heading to New York City to train at the prestigious Neighborhood Playhouse.

She made her Broadway debut in 1968 as part of the original cast of Hair, quickly earning attention for her wit and presence.

She would later go on to star in Lovers and Other Strangers, but her breakout came in 1972 with The Godfather, where she portrayed Kay Adams-Corleone opposite Al Pacino.

The role made her a household name and she made quite the name for herself as she continued to act.

Keaton also made her mark on television, notably starring alongside Jude Law in the acclaimed 2016 miniseries The Young Pope.

A year later, her decades-long contribution to film was recognized when she received the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award at the American Film Institute’s gala.

In August 2022, the Hollywood icon was further celebrated with a Hand and Footprint Ceremony at the TCL Chinese Theatre.

Away from the screen, Keaton led a fiercely independent life.

She adopted two children – daughter Dexter and son Duke – in her 50s and remained proudly unmarried, despite past relationships with major Hollywood names including Woody Allen, Warren Beatty, Al Pacino, and Jack Nicholson.

‘I think I’m the only one in my generation and maybe before who has been a single woman all her life,’ she once said.

‘I don’t think it would have been a good idea for me to have married, and I’m really glad I didn’t.’
