An attempted moment of silence in Congress in honor of Charlie Kirk turned into a screaming match, which was brought about following comments made by Rep. Lauren Boebert.

The House of Representatives held a moment of silence for the late conservative activist after he was shot and killed during a university appearance on Wednesday (September 10) in Utah.
House Speaker Mike Johnson held the moment of silence in his honor, until the 38-year-old Republican Colorado representative stood up and also offered a prayer.
“I believe silent prayers get silent results,” she said, via People.
This then incited an angry outburst, as one Democratic representative shouted: “What about the kids in Colorado?” (If you didn’t know, there was a shooting at a Colorado high school during the same day.)
She reportedly responded, claiming she was about to reference that tragedy too before she was interrupted.
Rep. Anna Paulina Luna from Florida, who worked with Charlie‘s Turning Point USA, then yelled back “You caused this!” in response, the New York Times reports.
Connecticut representative Jahana Hayes then reportedly yelled back, “pass some gun laws!”
After the heated back-and-forth chaos in the House, New York representative Joe Morelle explained that prayer isn’t part of protocol, even for fellow congresspeople.
“You have a system that you follow for everybody…and when you violate it and create exceptions, it then leads to this uneasiness and I think that’s kind of what happened in the moment,” he told Axios.
“The fact that Democrats were not allowing the speaker to do a moment of prayer is really disgusting. We should have been allowed to pray for Charlie. I would encourage the speaker to go back tomorrow and let us pray on the floor for Charlie Kirk‘s family,” Rep. Luna told the outlet.
“Political violence is scary for all of us, and…that type of backlash doesn’t help things,” Rep. Susie Lee of Nevada also told the outlet.
