Screen Rant gives it a 5 out of 10 and says: “Happy Gilmore 2 has its moments, but ultimately fails where it counts, thanks to an unfocused plot, gratuitous cameos, and unearned nostalgia.”
Consequence gives it a B, writing: “Between Happy’s family life and a whole new series of challenges for him to tackle, there’s enough freshness to the plot to keep it from feeling like a total rehash of what came before, while still delivering wild golf stunts and a huge range of cameos.”
The Wrap says: “The vibe of the Netflix sequel to Sandler’s beloved gonzo sports comedy is older, nicer and in need of ibuprofen.”
AV Club says: “In the scheme of Happy Madison’s second life on Netflix, Happy Gilmore 2 doesn’t stand on its own enough to rate alongside the company’s best work for the streamer, which tends to involve Robert Smigel in a greater capacity than a two-minute walk-on. But the sequel is another indication that Sandler is still undertaking his longtime mission of making silly comfort-food comedies with the stealth seriousness of older age.”
THR writes: “Other than a running gag revolving around Happy’s use of every possible object as a liquor container, the film’s main humor involves people being painfully hit by golf balls. By the time the movie ends and you’ve been assaulted by one tired gag after another, you’ll know exactly how they feel.”
Variety says: “Happy Gilmore 2 is a happy orgy of raucously well-executed Adam Sandler fan service. It’s a pointed exercise in nostalgia, but with a present-tense edge.”
The film currently has a 72% Fresh rating from the Rotten Tomatoes audience. Find out who makes a cameo!
