Landon Donovan is opening up about his hair transformation.
Donovan, 43, shared a video on Instagram on Sept. 29, in which he explained his hair history and revealed he had already attempted a hair transplant. “Alright guys, I need your help,” Donovan began the video.
The former LA Galaxy forward continued, “Since I was 18, 19, 20, I’ve been dealing with that,” he said, gesturing to his thinning hair. “Hairline used to be here. And now this,” he said.
“So I tried everything, I tried the hair transplant treatment here, tried it back here. Nothing’s worked. My options now are shave it bald. Don’t want to do that. Not an option for me. Leave it as is. Not an option right now. Or I can try the last thing, which is a hair system that is basically a wig, to see if that works,” he continued.
He then told his followers he needed their help and asked for advice on the type of hairstyle he should get.
“I’m sure there’ll be a lot of banter, funny answers. That’s fine. But real answers, too. I need your help. Thanks,” he continued.
On Oct. 3, Donovan shared a follow-up video, sharing that he opted to have a hair piece installed.
He said he “finally tried a hairpiece” after “years of trying different methods.”
“I’ve been encouraged by your messages over the last few days. It’s allowed me to be vulnerable and open up about my experience and process. Thank you for all your messages of support!” he wrote in the caption of the post.

In the video, the middle portion of his head was shaved down to make way for the hair piece. “Oh, my God. She just shaved my head. Just arrived at the appointment. I’m excited, nervous…we’ll see how it goes,” he began in the video.
After he was pleasantly surprised by the bald look, his stylist went ahead with his hair piece installation. On Oct. 7, Donovan shared a hair update in another Instagram video. “Hey, guys hair update. God, it’s weird to look at,” his video began.

“I just want to say thanks to everybody for all this support. This has been really exciting, and the support you guys have shown has been amazing. I had no idea, no idea how many people were dealing with this, struggling with it. I have had thousands of messages from you guys. And I really appreciate the support and to everybody who has struggling with hair loss, who’s dealt with hair loss, etc. It’s okay to be vulnerable, be brave,” Donovan continued.
