ER’s Alex Kingston Suffered Hemorrhage Onstage Before Uterine Cancer Diagnosis

Alex Kingston is offering a look into her heartbreaking health battle.

The ER alum shared that she was diagnosed with womb cancer (also referred to as uterine cancer) in 2024 after years of unexplained symptoms.

“I had assumed that the way I was feeling was old age, and I just sort of accepted it,” Alex, 62, told The Independent in an interview published Oct. 10. “I thought, ‘OK, this is what it’s like to be in my sixties.’ But a lot of how I was feeling was to do with my illness.”

The Doctor Who star noted that she experienced “bloating” and “aching pains” for years, but it wasn’t until she noticed blood in her urine that she got a second opinion from her doctor. And as Alex waited for answers, she continued to take on theater acting roles, including starring in The Other Boleyn at the Chichester Festival last summer.

However, Alex—who shares daughter Salome Haertel, 24, with ex-husband Florian Haertel—endured another terrifying symptom while performing on stage.
