Emma Heming Willis entered into publishing-and had a blast doing so. Some days back, the rookie author took to Instagram and expressed excitement about signing some 500 bookplates for her memoir, titled “The Unexpected Journey.” So, bookplates are signed stickers; they get stuck inside the book, making it a special autographed edition. She jokingly said that she was “born yesterday” about the whole idea of it all-the enthusiasm, however, was clear as day.

In the post, she said that the next few nights will be spent signing away with either a documentary or a show on in the background. She asked for suggestions from followers, who then flooded her with responses. From And So It Goes featuring Billy Joel, Searching for Sugarman, even Downton Abbey-words just kept flowing. One suggested The Resident and Virgin River for binge watching. The Billy Joel documentary might have been one of the Emma’s favorites as she responded, “That is what I will watch then! Thank you!”
The book is an account of five weeks to its release on her caregiving experiences-a subject so close to her heart because of her advocacy for frontotemporal dementia (FTD) awareness. Many followers declared themselves excited about the book, one declaring: “Currently, I have 3 friends who are caregivers and my hope in reading this book is that it will help me to be a better supportive friend to them.” Emma responded with “You’re a kind friend 💙.”
Many wanted to know about pre-orders and getting an autographed copy, and, to be honest, she was not perfectly sure yet and promised to openly share the deets when she did have answers. This funny and humble touch created a real conversation, as if she had just shared a big milestone with a close friend-something rather unlike the usual celebrity endorsements for projects.
Amidst the excitement were moments of gratitude: “Thank you for your FTD Advocacy,” said one supporter. Emma responded with a heart emoji. As is clear, though, while the book is a great personal achievement, it is much bigger than Emma herself.
“Take breaks. Writer’s cramp is real. 😂,” one concerned fan warned. Emma laughed it off and loved it. Between bookplates, a documentary queue, and the counting down to release, Emma Heming Willis greeted this new chapter with gusto-with pen in hand and ready to go.
The comments ranged from supportive to excited with a little bit of nostalgia thrown in there; the name “PeeWee as Himself” was carelessly thrown about. Billy Joel or My Octopus Teacher, one thing is sure-Emma is going to be well entertained as she signs her way into the literary world. Maybe this will only be the beginning-onward, together with readers on this unexpected journey!
