Electric vibes. After feeling like a lifetime without Donnie Wahlberg on the small screen, the announcement of Boston Blue literally blew people’s minds. The promo finds Wahlberg in familiar territory: badge and gun in hand, firm new city underfoot and a fresh partner to share those awkward silences and exciting chases with. “You ready to run it back, Brooklyn?” “Try and stop me, bean-town,” are excerpts of the banter between Sonequa Martin-Green’s character and his-the kind of fiery banter only lovers can share.
Messy but simple premise, full of potential. Wahlberg’s character is solidly rooted within a Boston law enforcement family. Sister is a superintendent of detectives and the younger brother is a rookie in patrol work with the mother working the DA’s office. Wahlberg would say he’s “a happy kind of confusing friend,” and that’s just so Wahlberg. The fight for justice is the same, however, on different land.
The reception has been very positive, with an air of excitement for the return. Perhaps another member summed it all up perfectly by saying, “Ahhh, I can’t wait to see Donnie Wahlberg on my TV again!” This comment was greeted in almost unanimous agreement when another commented, “Honestly SAME,” followed by clapping emojis. Obviously, his absence was felt.
It is already a great source of excitement associated with Wahlberg’s previous Danny Reagan standing in Blue Bloods. Many comments directly referenced the dearly loved character. “I love everything about this! Danny Reagan as the main character is gonna be awesome!” one user declared, clearly eager to see that kind of character come to life again. Someone else cried, “LET’S GO. DANNY REAGAN! 😎,” indicating how deeply resonant that legacy still is for viewers.
The excitement appears to be soaring abroad. The show is international news; one fan from Argentina commented, “I am waiting for it with longing. From Argentina. I know, I have to wait for the subtitles, but it doesn’t matter… for the Reagans, everything ❣️.” That sparked a few more responses from Latin American viewers, signaling that the show’s appeal stretches well beyond Boston. One replied, “All of Latin America is waiting for it,” while another asked which network would air it, a sign of genuine interest in finding out how to watch it.
The majority are cooking up plans for watching parties. “Yass! We NEED a watch party,” interjected another fan, followed by an “I second that” and an “I’m IN!” from others. You can practically sense this community being rallied around the show premiere. Another person pointed out that they were excited for the weekly tweet fest, referring to the live reactions and online discussions they expect to follow every new episode.

Casting of Sonequa Martin-Green is garnering rave reviews. “Gahhhhhh don’t even have words this is gonna be SO good. Sonequa Martin-Green is everything!!!!! And the rest of the cast just stellar. Let’s Go!!!!!” Such excitement for the whole cast is quite promising and shows that the show already has a life of its own outside of its lead. The consensus that Boston Blue was going to be huge was reiterated in the comment, “This is gonna be the spin off of all spin offs! We just feel it.” The countdown to October 17 begins officially! Donnie Wahlberg recently celebrated a personal milestone with his wife Jenny McCarthy.
