Bette Midler leads tributes as Diane Keaton is remembered by Hollywood after death at age 79

Diane Keaton is being remembered by her Hollywood friends and colleagues after her shock death on Saturday at age 79.

Bette Midler was among the first to pay tribute to the late actress, with whom she starred in the 1996 comedy-drama The First Wives Club.

Sharing photos on Instagram, 79-year-old Midler wrote, ‘The brilliant, beautiful, extraordinary Diane Keaton has died.

‘I cannot tell you how unbearably sad this makes me. She was hilarious, and completely without guile, or any of the competitiveness one would have expected from such a star. What you saw was who she was…oh, la, lala!’

Piers Morgan also paid his respects via the social media app X, formerly Twitter.

The 60-year-old broadcaster wrote, ‘RIP Diane Keaton, 79. Oscar-winning star of Annie Hall, brilliant in the Godfather and Father of the Bride movies. One of Hollywood’s greatest actresses, and a delightful lady. Sad news.’
