Did He Do That? ‘Family Matters’ Star, Darius McCrary, Arrested On Felony Warrant Near Mexico’s Border

Did HE do THIS?! That’s likely what fans of ‘Family Matters’ star Darius McCrary are thinking right now after finding out he’s in serious legal trouble. The actor, who made us all laugh as Eddie Winslow on the beloved ’90s sitcom, was arrested near the U.S.-Mexico border in California. He’s currently cooling his heels in a San Diego jail. While the details are still unclear, one thing’s for sure — things are looking messy for McCrary off-screen.

The Winslow Charm Can’t Fix This Mess

According to TMZ, the 48-year-old was taken into custody by U.S. Border Patrol on Sunday in connection with a fugitive arrest linked to a felony charge from out of state. Additionally, the California penal code cited in the case allows officers to make an arrest without a warrant if the individual is believed to be a fugitive wanted in another state. McCrary is still behind bars in San Diego with no bail or release in sight, according to court records. His team told TMZ the arrest stems from a warrant out of Michigan after he allegedly missed a court date over unpaid child support.

A rep for McCrary responded to the arrest in a statement. They told Us Weekly that the actor was picked up at the border because “he was partnering with a real estate developer that is building homes for the homeless in Tijuana Mexico.

“Darius was doing a good deed when he discovered he had a felony warrant at the Border of Mexico for a missed court appearance,” the statement read. “The missed court appearance was for an ongoing child support dispute whereas Oakland County mailed the notice to appear to Darius PO BOX giving him only 3 days to appear in Michigan Court. Unfortunately Darius had Covid therefore did not check his PO Box until the day after his court date. However immediately notified the Judge with a doctor’s note diagnosis of Covid.”

The Jokes Flew, But So Did The Side-Eyes

Whew — when TMZ dropped the news, their comment section lit up fast. Folks pulled out every Family Matters joke in the book, with punchlines flying left and right. But while some were cracking up, others showed concern for Darius, hoping he gets it together — though not without a few side-eyes from people who swear he’s always caught up in some mess.

These Ain’t The ‘Family Matters’ We Remember

The arrest marks just the latest chapter in McCrary’s ongoing legal drama. A few years ago, the actor found himself in hot water for failing to pay child support following his divorce from ex-wife Tammy Brawner. The two went through a lengthy court battle that finally wrapped up in 2019, but McCrary’s issues didn’t end there. As part of the divorce agreement, he was ordered to pay $1,366 per month in child support, but it seems like that’s been another point of contention. In fact, McCrary even filed a restraining order against Brawner as well. He alleges that she was “terrorizing” him and turning their home into a “drug den.”

Furthermore, back in 2023, McCrary also claimed that he was forced to leave his own home because of alleged abuse from Brawner — physical, verbal, and mental — and that she had even threatened to take his dog if he didn’t pay up. Talk about a family matter that’s anything but cute. Fans who remember McCrary as the charming and funny Eddie Winslow on ‘Family Matters’ might be shocked to see that the actor’s life off-screen has taken such a tumultuous turn. From sitcom star to courtroom drama, McCrary’s journey is a reminder that sometimes, life is far messier than TV land.
