Dacre Montgomery is hyped about the Stranger Things series finale — but for a different reason than most fans of the hit Netflix show.

Speaking with PEOPLE in an exclusive conversation at a special screening of his new film, Dead Man’s Wire, in New York City on Dec. 10, the 31-year-old actor explained what Stranger Things fans still mean to him and what he’s most excited for as the series’ final chapter approaches.

The actor, who played Billy Hargrove in seasons 2 and 3 before just appearing in stepsister Max’s nightmares in season 4, also shared what he’s most thrilled about regarding Stranger Things ending on Dec. 31.

“The thing I’m most excited for is now that [co-creators Russ and Matt Duffer] are done with the show, they have so many other amazing ideas that I’m excited about — like, if people love Stranger Things, imagine what else they can do,” Montgomery said. “So I love that.”

Among the Duffer Brothers’ next endeavors are two new Netflix series.

The Boroughs, starring Geena Davis, will be a supernatural mystery set in a retirement community. Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen, starring Camila Morrone and Adam DiMarco, is centered on a doomed wedding.
