Jordan gave her followers some incredible raw and uncut shots of the newest skincare treatment with microneedling and laser work to tighten and rejuvenate the skin. She even documented the whole procedure via Instagram, including her candid reactions to the pain.

On the surface, it seemed to be a collagen generation and texture enhancing treatment. Sheesh! Jordan spilled all the tough stuff about pain in her glamorous life story. One of the treatment episodes she described: “tight little pricks.” And that was the end of it. The temporary discomfort was worth the amazing results.

Another great moment came when she compared this treatment with Morpheus8, which is another well-known treatment for skin tightening. Jordan said she avoids Morpheus8 because she heard from quite a few people that the procedure was painful. “I’ve never had anybody say they loved their Morpheus treatment,” she said. She went on to say that her treatment, while still painful, was “more bearable, and most importantly, it works with my skin.”

Mixed reactions poured in the comment section. Some praised her for her gutsy honesty, with one fan pointing out, “Love that you keep it real about the pain, most influencers act like these treatments are a breeze!” Others sort of joked, “Nope, I’ll stick to my moisturizer and prayers.”

Jordan shared about hyperpigmentation, a very common issue for women of color while treating with lasers. The technician seemingly employed very specialized techniques to mitigate these risks: including insulated needles and post-treatment serums such as tranexamic acid for dark spots.

The very end of that episode of treatment showed her face bright red—a fairly normal reaction—but she was smiling through it. “Maintenance isn’t always pretty,” she said, laughing, while putting on a soothing mask.

What learned for anybody considering such a treatment: Scrutinize everything; find a practitioner who can be trusted; and mentally prepare yourself for pain. And that refreshing honesty provided such a stark contrast to the more often-than-not rarely sublime but infinitely glossy portrayals of cosmetic procedures online.

This particular Jordan post set in motion continuing discussions about what actually goes on in aesthetic treatments—pain and results included.
