Cindy McCain Speaks Out After Suffering Stroke in Italy


Cindy McCain is recovering after a medical emergency.

On Thursday (October 9) it was revealed that the 71-year-old widow of the late Senator John McCain experienced a minor stroke while visiting the headquarters of the United Nations World Food Programme, of which she is executive director, in Rome, Italy.

After receiving treatment, Cindy was cleared to travel and returned home to Arizona, where she will continue to recuperate for up to six weeks.

Keep reading to find out more…“I want to thank the medical staff in Italy for the excellent treatment I received,” Cindy shared in a statement, via the WFP’s website. “My recovery is progressing well thanks to their outstanding care. I look forward to continuing my recuperation at home in Arizona with my family.”

She continued, “In the meantime, I have full confidence in my leadership team to stay laser-focused on delivering urgently needed food assistance to the more than 100 million people WFP is working to serve across 87 countries. The fight against hunger has never been more critical, and I am incredibly proud of the work our teams do every day. I look forward to being back in the field soon—alongside WFP teams—pushing back against famine and supporting communities in need.”
