Cillian Murphy’s ‘resting bored face’ while Taylor Swift talks about her engagement to Travis Kelce leaves Graham Norton viewers in hysterics

Cillian Murphy has been called out for his ‘resting bored face’ while listening to Taylor Swift is talking about her engagement to fiancé Travis Kelce.

The Oscar-winning actor, 47, and the pop star, 35, both appeared on the Graham Norton Show on Friday evening alongside a panel of other stars.

However, fans quipped that Cillian looked less than impressed by the fanfare over Taylor’s recent wedding news as she showed off her dazzling diamond ring.

Cillian has previously been mocked for his unimpressed facial expressions at public events, including during the Golden Globes where he picked up the Best Actor in a Motion Picture: Drama for his performance in Oppenheimer.

And his most recent chat show appearance paid no exception, as he promoted his new film Steve, about a head teacher at a reform school struggles to keep his students in line while also battling with his own mental health issues.

While Taylor was there to discuss her new album, The Life Of A Showgirl, much was made over her engagement – but according to fans Cillian was ‘performing mental gymnastics’ in order to get through the segment.

Her new engagement ring from Travis Kelce, who proposed in August, was front and centre, as Taylor showed off the sparkler which reportedly cost her NFL star fiancé between $700,000 and $1,000,000.

Asked by Graham when the wedding is happening, she said: ‘You’ll know. I want to do the album stuff first, and the wedding is what happens after in terms of planning. I think it will be fun to plan.’

Making light of his reaction to the chat, fans took to X to share their thoughts on the moment between the two celebrity heavyweights.

They said: ‘Here for Cillian’s facial expressions’; ‘Is it me or does Cillian look like he didn’t give a s***, but tried to look like he did’; ‘Cillian is one of us!’; ‘Are were all here for Cillian’s face?’; ‘I can’t like these comments fast enough’;

‘Poor Cillian, he cracks me up’; ‘Someone get poor Cillian off that couch with her’; ‘This is the highest level of facial expression we’ll ever see from Cillian’; ‘Cillian’s social battery is always at 10 per cent’.

‘And nobody could have expected anything less (or more) from him!’; ‘He is literally all of us with this kind of content’; ‘Find me something he does care about’; ‘Totally feeling him’; ‘Cillian reacts to everything like that lol’; ‘Another meme’.

Many of the comments suggested that this is nothing personal between Cillian and Taylor and he reacts to most things in the same lacklustre way.

For example, Cillian had a hugely successful night at the Golden Globes in 2024 as he won Best Actor in a Motion Picture: Drama for his performance in Oppenheimer.

However, what really captured the attention of fans on the night was the Irish actor’s ‘bored’ facial expression, despite taking home a top gong.

He was quickly turned into a meme with videos and photographs of himself posing at the glitzy awards ceremony going viral, leaving fans in complete stitches.

Fans commented on his ‘nonchalant’ expression as he looked less than impressed as he joined the Hollywood elite at the hotly-anticipated ceremony.

They joked that Cillian seemed like he was ‘hating every single second’ of the Golden Globes, and said he was the ‘winner of the idgaf war’.

Taking to X – formerly known as Twitter – they gushed over the ‘relatable’ star as he gave a very small smile while posing with a beaming Robert Downey Jr after they both took home awards.

One wrote: ‘Cillian Murphy’s commitment to openly hating every single second he is around other human beings is honestly inspiring.’

Another said: ‘Cillian Murphy, the real winner of the idgaf war,’ a third commented: ‘I relate to him so hard.’

A fourth tweeted: ‘Cillian Murphy has the coldest, most nonchalant, bored to the bones kind of facial expressions I’ve ever seen in an actor lol.’

One quipped: ‘Today, a day of in-person work, feeling a bit like Cillian Murphy,’ and another added: ‘He’s my spirit animal.’

Despite the commentary on Cillian and Taylor from viewers, it seems they do actually get on as Taylor recalled spending time with the star and his family at an Oscars party in the past.

The singer clearly bonded with the Irish actor’s family and even spotted one of his sons sat in the audience.

Taylor pointed over to Cillian’s son Aran, 17, in the crowd and labelled the teen ‘the future of our world’ as she heaped praise on the ‘interesting conversationalist’.

Revealing their surprise meeting, Cillian said: ‘We were at a party and I had the whole gang and my family, and my kids. I don’t think my kids were legally allowed to be there.’

Taylor replied: ‘I don’t know but they were delightful. Your sons are the future of our world. They were such great conversationalists they were interesting and interested, that’s a real accomplishment.’

‘They’re here aren’t they?’ actress Greta Lee asked, as Cillian said: ‘One of them is here yeah, Aran. Wait where is he? Maybe he’s not here.’

But Aran was indeed in the audience and recognising him, in part due to his striking resemblance to his father, Taylor grinned as she pointed out to the audience and said: ‘Oh he’s right there, you can tell!’

Host Graham Norton laughed, as he added: ‘Oh my god he is so Cillian Murphy style.

‘If this was a game show we’ve all just won a prize.’
