‘I’d almost accepted that I wasn’t going to trust again, or let myself fall too deeply.

‘That was my way of protecting myself by keeping control.

‘But I’m learning that letting go is good sometimes — it’s good to hand over control and trust.’

It comes after Christine opened up about telling her children about her divorce to Paddy as she revealed she was ‘blown away’ by their reaction.

The pair, who wed in 2011, have three children – twins Leo and Penelope, as well as Felicity.

And now that the twins have turned 12, Christine has revealed that they have been ‘mature’ about the divorce.

Speaking to DailyMail, Christine who is working with Barratt Redrow Campaign, said: ‘No, I’ve spoken to the children about relationships in general, and adulthood.

‘Obviously, my twins are 12 now, so we’re having those conversations, and they’ve absolutely blown my mind with how much they understand, and how mature they are.

‘It makes me feel very proud of not just how well I’ve done as a mum, but as a family how open we are, and how good we are at communicating with each other, and reassuring the children that everything is ok, and every family is different, and this is our normal.

‘It’s good to teach them that one of the great things about being an adult is that you can change your mind at any time.

‘If one day you are in a relationship, and then you just want to go and be friends [the next day], or you consider yourself just family instead, then that’s ok – you can do that.’

Opening up about Paddy, Christine confessed that Paddy is a hard worker and that she admires how much he loves his work.

She said: ‘I think he is a really hard worker, and he has always been a grafter. He loves his work, and I admire that.

‘He has inspired me to want to work more, and to be independent and go for it. The way he has gone out and worked is admirable. It’s not easy leaving your children and being away from home.

‘I know sometimes people think going to work is like a day off, and it’s harder to be at home, and yes, it is.’

After Christine and Paddy had been living together for the sake of their three children, who have all been diagnosed with autism, the exes finalised their divorce out of court last summer.

Christine revealed how ‘difficult’ the break-up had been for her after the pair’s marital home, a Cheshire mansion worth £6.5million, was put on the market.

And since her divorce she has appeared on Celebs Go Dating but soon left after appearing overwhelmed during the episodes.

She made a surprise appearance during the show finale as she confessed she had come to regret her decision to leave the show, after learning that both Kerry Katona and Jon Lee found love on the show.

She jokingly said: ‘I should have stayed, I could have found the love of my life,’ but went on to admit she feels ‘completely free’ after reuniting with her children.
