The decision of Bam Margera, one of the most prominent figures in skateboarding, to disclose his happiness at the same time as Tom Schaar, another skater, performed one of the hardest tricks ever possible, made everyone’s day at the FDR Skatepark in Philadelphia. The trick was a wall ride and it is called frontside disaster. Margera posted the trick on his social networks and he said that at first, he could not believe it but only after he saw Schaar doing it. Moreover, Schaar’s reputation in the world of skateboarding, was further strengthened when he got the cover feature in Thrasher Magazine, the most prestigious publication in the skating world, for that very reason.

The skateboarding community was already thrilled and they showed their excitement immediately by flooding the internet with positive comments. Someone not only wrote the most universal comment that was saying ‘Wow that’s absolutely insane !!!’ but also one more person asked if the trick was not somewhat a rock n roll and another one expressed it as ‘Wait that’s not a rock n roll?!?’ and so on, the discussions were pretty lively and full of claims that it was confirmed by no other than skateboarding legend Tony Hawk that the trick was indeed a legitimate disaster.

The mega-foiled professional skateboarder Tom Schaar was perched on top of the skateboard world for a very short while, and he was declared the winner of the King of the Hill contest in the same year of his performance at the FDR Street contest. Margera wrapped up his post with generous compliments and he stated, ‘This cover is very well deserved! Congratulations, Tom!’

While some people were quick to notice and catch on to the point of Schaar’s consecutive magazine covers, one user expressed it the best by saying ‘dude just got two covers back-to-back. This is our SOTY’ which implied that they consider Schaar to be in the race for the Skater of the Year title. It is a sign that Schaar is considered nothing less than a superstar in the professional skateboarding world.

Nonetheless, there was one that said Margera, ‘You’re living in the 90s. Grow up,’ which came up to a short debate and a rebuttal by the majority who rooted for the two skaters thus indicating that the view is a minority one.

Skating legend Tom Schaar has been taming and conquering the great wall of skateboarding with harder and harder feats ever since he pulled off and landed a 1080 in a competition at the very young age of 12. Now, he is in his twenties and still trying to create new tricks in the vert skating arena among other things. Besides, such difficult skating tricks being pulled off on such legendary spots like the FDR gnarwall, speak volumes about the skater’s skill and dedication.

The FDR skatepark can be considered as a god in the skateboard heaven, it is the ultimate destination for skaters from all over the world. The rugged and harsh character of the park and the skaters’ tough roads have made it indisputably one of the top skating locations in the world. And certainly, the gnarwall is the most terrifying part of the park, and obviously, Schaar’s trick has left a mark in the history of skateboarding.

Bam Margera letting the world see through his eyes and literally putting the dying day moments of skaters sharing, enable us to see the skateboarding evolution. The industry will keep going on as long as the likes of Tom Schaar are there to release the new potentials. Margera on one hand is the witness to things who sees and gives; on the other hand, he is the one who personifies the spirit that exists among the skate community especially among the pros, that is, he is one who looks around and learns and shares.

The frontside disaster on the gnarwall, is now a property of skateboarding legends. The Schaar cover is a nice way of embedding the trick in history and at the same time motivating the kids to come up with their own impossible ones. Margera’s very realistic and unplanned reaction is a reminder for everyone that even those who are in the profession for the longest time can still be taken aback by the endless possibilities of skateboarding progression.
