Wedding bells are ringing for Liam Hemsworth and Gabriella Brooks!

On Sept. 12, the model announced on Instagram that she and Hemsworth are engaged after nearly six years of dating. The news came one month after Brooks was spotted wearing a diamond ring in Ibiza, Spain.

Hemsworth was first seen with Brooks in his native country, Australia, in December 2019. However, they didn’t make their first official appearance together until June 2021 at a charity dinner.

Though The Hunger Games alum hasn’t spoken publicly about his now-fiancée, Brooks opened up in a December 2021 interview with Stellar Magazine about why she prefers to keep her love life private.

“My personal relationship is very, very important and very sacred to me,” the model said, according to the Daily Mail. “And I feel like in an industry where so much is put out on show, there are some things you just want to keep to yourself.”

She is a model

Brooks splits her time between Australia, Los Angeles and London, and is represented by a modeling company in each location, including Elite in N.Y.C. In an interview with Its Now Cool, Brooks said she was scouted and signed when she was 14 years old.

Since then, she has worked on campaigns for Louis Vuitton, Calvin Klein and Valentino. In May 2023, Brooks made her runway debut in Australian Fashion Week.

Brooks previously dated Matty Healy

Before Hemsworth, Brooks was in a long-term relationship with The 1975 frontman Matty Healy. The two were first linked in 2015 when Brooks shared a photo with the singer on Instagram, and made their red carpet debut in 2017 when they attended the BRIT Awards together.

However, the pair broke up in late 2019, around the same time that Hemsworth filed for divorce from his ex-wife, Miley Cyrus.

Though it’s unclear when and how Hemsworth and Brooks met, they were first seen together in December 2019, enjoying a day at the beach in Byron Bay, Australia. They were also photographed getting lunch with Hemsworth’s parents, whom Brooks greeted with a hug.

The following month, a source told PEOPLE that the two were “getting serious” and that she had met his entire family.

“Liam and Gabriella have spent a lot of time in Australia together,” the source told PEOPLE. “Liam has been in a great mood.” They added that the two enjoy spending time at the beach together, often exercising or surfing.

They quarantined together in Australia

Though the two spent the first few months of 2020 in Beverly Hills, they returned to Australia amid the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. In May 2020, Hemsworth opened up about how he was spending his time on his native Phillip Island with Brooks.

“It’s just a very mellow area where I grew up,” he told PEOPLE. “It’s quiet and it’s a beautiful spot. I’m able to see the ocean from my house.”

He added that he and Brooks had been enjoying surfing and playing board games like Scrabble.

“I used to play with my grandma when I was a kid. She loved Scrabble,” he said. “It made me nostalgic and brought back memories.”

The same month, Hemsworth and Brooks were photographed spending time with Liam’s brother, Chris Hemsworth, and his wife, Elsa Pataky, at the beach.

Brooks has spent time with Hemsworth’s family

Since the beginning of their relationship, Brooks has been close with the Hemsworth family.

In November 2020, she joined the family’s celebration of Luke’s birthday and, in June 2021, joined Chris and Pataky at a charity dinner, marking her first official public appearance with Hemsworth.

Six months later, as she and Hemsworth moved back to L.A., Brooks shared in an interview with Stellar Magazine that she was “lucky” to spend time with the Hemsworth family.

“[The Hemsworths] are great,” she said. “They are the most beautiful people and I’m very lucky to know them.”

The same month, Brooks enjoyed a ski trip with the whole Hemsworth clan, including both brothers and their wives.

After nearly three years of dating, Hemsworth and Brooks made their red carpet debut as a couple at the Australian premiere of the actor’s film, Poker Face, in November 2022.

After sparking engagement speculation in August 2025, Brooks confirmed that Hemsworth had proposed in a post on Instagram on Sept. 12, 2025.
