Adam revealed on the podcast that he and Michael C. Hall had both auditioned for the same role on Six Feet Under. Adam said the show “eclipsed all other shows” while it aired and that missing that role was particularly “painful” for him.

“It was the one where I was like, ‘I might stop doing this. I think that it’s time for me to read the tea leaves and walk away,’” Adam told his Parks and Recreation co-star.

Despite not getting the role, Adam said that he felt like it was for the best that it went to Michael in the end.

“It’s good that I didn’t get it because it wouldn’t be nearly as good if I had done it because he was perfect and incredible,” Adam said. “He’s incredible, and I wasn’t ready.”
