Doja Cat Brings the ’80s Back by Performing “Jealous Type” With Kenny G at 2025 MTV VMAs

Doja Cat kicked off the 2025 MTV Music Video Awards Sunday night with a performance of “Jealous Type.”

While the VMAs‘ host LL Cool J finished his opening monologue, Doja Cat appeared in a Max Headroom-influenced video. The singer then performed her new track “Jealous Type” with a heavily-influenced ’80s-sounding pop vibe, including a memorable saxophone intro to the song by Kenny G.

Doja danced all over the stage in a white crop top and black pants, interacting with fans and encouraging them to sing the lyrics back. The background of her performance emphasized the retro feel with bright lights of pink and blue.

Doja is also up for the best K-pop award for her feature on Lisa’s “Born Again.” However, she’s no stranger to the VMAs stage, as she’s taken to the stage three times. She also hosted the awards show in 2021.

The “Paint the Town Red” singer’s fifth album Vie, which features “Jealous Type,” is set to be released on Sept. 26. Doja recently wrapped up her global Scarlet Tour on July 14 in London’s Finsbury Park.

Additional VMA performers include Lady Gaga, Tate McRae, Sabrina Carpenter, Alex Warren, Busta Rhymes, Conan Gray, J Balvin, DJ Snake, Justin Quiles, Lenny Tavárez, Jelly Roll, Mariah Carey, Post Malone, Ricky Martin, Sombr, Steven Tyler, Joe Perry, Yungblud and Nuno Bettencourt. Performances on an extended stage include The Kid Laroi, Lola Young, Bailey Zimmerman and Megan Moroney.

The 2025 VMAs were held at the UBS Arena in Elmont, New York. Find the complete list of winners here and see all of the red carpet looks here.
