When Jack Antonoff married with The Substance star Margaret Qualley in 2023, he also gained a mother-in-law in Andie MacDowell, who thinks her daughter found the right partner.

“He’s so nice. They’re really good together,” MacDowell said in a January 2024 episode of The Drew Barrymore Show. “They’re fun, they’re nice, good people and they’re very well matched.”

“I feel very lucky that [Margaret] ended up with somebody that suits her,” she continued. “She’s an interesting character; she needed someone that could match her. She’s brilliant too. She’s really smart, she’s very artistic.”

A month before Millie Bobby Brown and Jake Bongiovi’s intimate May 2024 wedding in Italy, musician Jon Bon Jovi — the groom’s dad — opened up to The Times about his now-daughter-in-law and what impressed him the most.

“I’ve gotten to know her in the last year, she works really hard, and she and Jake will grow together in their own way,” he said. “It is an accelerated version of what I went through 40 years ago, and I think, with the support of family around them, they’re gonna be great together.”

Brown and Bongiovi married in their early 20s, and the Stranger Things star later shared that they looked up to their parents, both of whom had also wedded early in life.

“His parents got married really young — they’re high school sweethearts,” Brown said in a March 2025 episode of the Call Her Daddy podcast. “My parents got married really young. They met when they were 19.”

The actress continued, “We had really great role models growing up, so we didn’t see any different. We didn’t get jaded by all the other stuff, you know?”

Eddie Murphy and Martin Lawrence

After starring together in Boomerang (1992) and then in Life (1999), Eddie Murphy and Martin Lawrence likely didn’t imagine they’d one day be family. But that changed when Murphy’s son, Eric, proposed to Lawrence’s daughter, Jasmin, in November 2024.

Initially, the comedians agreed who would foot the bill for the wedding, with Lawrence revealing on Sherri in January 2025: “[Eddie] said, ‘I paid for the last six weddings.’ You know, ‘cause Eddie got a lot of children. So, he said, ‘[You’re] paying for this one.’ I don’t have a problem with it.”

But five months later, Eddie revealed the couple had chosen a quiet church ceremony instead. “They went off, everybody was making the big wedding plans, and then they decided they wanted to do something quiet with just the two of them,” Eddie said on The Jennifer Hudson Show.

He added of Lawrence, “We’re in-laws! He [doesn’t] have to pay for the big wedding now.”

When Lily Collins and Charlie McDowell married in September 2021, it brought together one big Hollywood family tree.

The Emily in Paris star became the daughter-in-law of actors Malcolm McDowell and Mary Steenburgen (who is married to Ted Danson), while her rock star dad, Phil Collins, became officially related to a new star-studded circle.

After the wedding, Steenburgen celebrated the occasion with a heartfelt Instagram post. “Charlie, my son, and Lily, my daughter-in-law!!! Thank you for letting us all bask in the sheer beauty of your love for each other,” Steenburgen captioned a photo of the newlyweds smiling on their wedding day. “My heart is overflowing and it almost feels like the last few days were some sort of beautiful dream. But it is all real, and I feel like the luckiest mother in the world.”

Chris Pratt married Katherine Schwarzenegger — daughter of Arnold Schwarzenegger and ex-wife Maria Shriver — on June 8, 2019, and he says the family ties still feel surreal.

“Just being [Arnold’s] son-in-law and being part of his family, it obviously means a lot to have his support,” Pratt told PEOPLE in May 2023. “But then on another level, just being somebody who grew up loving his movies, the big action hero — I dreamed of being Commando and dreamed of being the soldier from Predator, and I loved Terminator. So him to give me kudos for going out and being on the marquee is really kind of mind-blowing.”

Not only is Pratt the Governator’s son-in-law, but he’s also brother-in-law to Katherine’s siblings, including actor Patrick Schwarzenegger, who costars with Pratt on the series The Terminal List and had his breakout role as Saxon in season 3 of The White Lotus. During a March 2025 appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show, Patrick credited Pratt with offering useful audition advice that helped him book the gig.

“My brother-in-law actually told me [that] when you’re auditioning, that in the first couple seconds, the casting director or the director will kind of know if you’re right for the role — and [that I should] try to do something unique,” Patrick said. “So for the first five or 10 seconds before the scene started, I just kind of locked in and had a little romantic moment with the camera.”

In 2021, record producer Mark Ronson married actress Grace Gummer, daughter of the one and only Meryl Streep. He even got official approval from the Oscar-winning mom when he met her, along with Gummer’s dad, Don, earlier in the year.

The Barbie movie score producer and the Only Murders in the Building star were both nominated for Golden Globes at the 2024 ceremony and even appeared together on-stage at the Grammys that same year to present an award.

“I’m really, really honored to be here tonight with you, Mark, to present the most important award of the night, the best album of the year,” Streep said during the live broadcast, prompting Ronson to jokingly correct her that they were announcing record of the year.

Gummer married into a famous family, too: Mark’s sisters are DJ Samantha Ronson and designer Charlotte Ronson.

From costars to family! After working together on the 2006 film The Devil Wears Prada, Stanley Tucci was invited to Emily Blunt’s 2010 wedding to John Krasinski. It was there that he met Blunt’s sister, Felicity, whom he married in 2012.

Blunt has nothing but praise for her brother-in-law. “He’s an all-around renaissance man who knows the way to everyone’s hearts,” she told PEOPLE in March 2022. “And it’s through having a damn good time. He’s frighteningly bright, quick to laugh, loves to be laughed at, charismatic, warm and energetic.”

“He’s authentic and irreverent in the best way ever,” Blunt continued. “He just gets life, and I absolutely worship the guy.”

Cameron Diaz and Nicole Richie are sisters-in-law, though the Back in Action star gets a kick out of how few people realize it! Richie married Good Charlotte vocalist Joel Madden in 2010, while Diaz tied the knot five years later with Joel’s twin brother and bandmate, Benji Madden.

While the Madden brothers may rule the stage, they’re the first to admit their wives “run the show” at home.

“When you think about the powerful women that are just these forces of nature — I think all of our wives are interesting in the fact that they also don’t want to be with a pushover guy,” Benji said during a March 2025 episode of Rob Lowe’s SiriusXM podcast, Literally!. “They still need a strong counterpart, but you have to also not have the ego.”

Joel said, “They are absolutely our counterparts, and we all have a healthy fear of our wives… I don’t know if I ever thought someone could keep me. I was a relationship guy, but then I met Nicole, and she absolutely runs the show — but we are partners.”

“That’s the queen,” Benji added of Diaz. “Go against my wife? Good luck. I don’t even need to get involved.”

Barbra Streisand is married to James Brolin, making her stepmother to Josh Brolin and a doting step-grandmother to his four children.

In a November 2024 interview with The Times, Josh recalled a moment early in his sobriety when he asked Streisand for a glass of wine at her house. Her response: “But aren’t you a drunk?”

Speaking about that exchange on The Howard Stern Show, Josh said, “That’s why I appreciate her a lot. I mean, we argued for years because she was very straightforward and probably reminded me, in some way, of a much more healthy version of my mother. She was this kind of like typical Jewish mother who was like, ‘You can’t do that because that would hurt you.’ ”

“I love that level of honesty, regardless of my reaction,” Josh continued. “And [caring has] always been the case in her way, a language that took me a while to learn and that I fully embrace now.”

Patrick Wilson and Scott Foley

Foley and Marika told PeopleTV in December 2019 that they met after Dagmara “played matchmaker” while she and Foley were acting in the same play, and introduced them. The pair wed in 2007.

The four shared the screen together in the 2014 film Let’s Kill Ward’s Wife.

Jenny McCarthy is married to Mark Wahlberg’s brother, Donnie Wahlberg, though Mark missed his big brother’s 2014 nuptials because it was his daughter’s birthday.

“You know what? I didn’t go to Mark’s wedding. It wasn’t personal, I was working,” Donnie revealed on The Howard Stern Show in March 2015. “If he wants to take one of those 24 days off to be with his daughter for a birthday, I’ve had to leave my kids — one of them is 22, I’ve been leaving him since he was in the womb.”

He added, “Mark’s been wonderful the times he’s met [Jenny], he’s been gracious and wonderful.”

Liam Neeson married actress Vanessa Redgrave’s older daughter, Natasha Richardson, in 1994. The pair remained together until her tragic death in 2009.

In the aftermath, Neeson mainly focused on raising their two sons and continuing his career, with support from Natasha’s family. “Everybody just pulled together. Vanessa and Joely [Richardson] were extraordinary,” he told PEOPLE in October 2024. “We were fortunate in lots of ways.”

Today, Natasha and Liam’s kids are following in their acting footsteps. “I think Natasha would be proud. I hope so,” Liam told PEOPLE.

Ashlee and Diana have bonded over music since becoming in-laws, and the “Pieces of Me” singer even plays her latest tracks for the music legend. “It’s nerve-wracking at first playing music for anyone when it’s new,” Ashlee said during a Jan 2023 appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show“But definitely her! You’re like, ‘Oh, please like it.’ Definitely butterflies — but she’s such a wonderful mother-in-law.”

Peter Sarsgaard and Maggie Gyllenhaal married in 2009, but they had already been dating for four years before he appeared alongside Jake Gyllenhaal in 2005’s Jarhead.

Nearly two decades later, the brothers-in-law acted together again on the Apple TV+ thriller series Presumed Innocent, and both concur their real-life relationship added depth to their performances.

“I think we both agree that it absolutely helps,” Gyllenhaal said during a June 2024 appearance on Today. “If you have a history with someone and you come into a scene and it’s a fictional world, you get to bring all of that stuff.”

“I love working with Peter,” Gyllenhaal added. “He demands an honesty not only as a brother, but also particularly as an actor. You just know you’re working with someone who is up for anything, and it’s like joy.”

The two are set to appear together again in Maggie’s upcoming directorial feature, The Bride!.
