Serena Williams comes out as paid spokesperson for health care company Ro, uses GLP-1 medication

In news I’m sure we’ll all be totally normal about, Serena Williams has revealed that, after the birth of her second daughter, she began taking GLP-1 medication to help her lose weight and as part of a partnership with health care company Ro, for which she is also a paid spokesperson. (Note, her husband, Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, is both an investor in Ro and a member of its board).

Williams credits the unnamed GLP-1 medication she received from Ro with helping her achieve a postpartum weight loss of 31 pounds in a year and get back to what she calls her normal weight. Prior to starting the GLP-1 medication, she had already tried multiple different diets (including vegan, vegetarian, and high-protein) and regularly hit a step goal of 20,000 steps per day. Using GLP-1 medication also helped normalize her blood sugar levels (something she was concerned about given the increased risk of diabetes both in African Americans generally and in her own family specifically) and her joints now feel a lot lighter. She hasn’t experienced any side effects while taking the medication.
