“I was told I was never gonna work again if I did Heathers. I did lose a job,” Winona revealed. She went on to share that the movie she lost a role in because of Heathers was the 1990 crime comedy The Freshman starring Marlon Brando and Matthew Broderick.

Winona went on to explain that she didn’t back down after she was warned about losing the role if she went on to appear in Heathers. She told Elle UK, “They thought it was making fun of teen suicide. They were deeply offended and, yeah, they revoked the offer. I’m like, ‘I can’t work with Marlon Brando?’ But I had to stand my ground. I wasn’t gonna apologise.”
